Energy Report

FREE

Member will receive a report identifying historical energy consumption data by monthly and daily totals.

 
Energy Assessment

FREE

Initiated by concern with regard to energy use in the home.  A cooperative employee will visit home to identify major electric users and potential causes of high bills.  In addition to the energy consumption report, member will also receive personalized recommendations of the most effective ways to reduce energy use. 

Energy Check Ups by Consumer's Energy

All trips incur a mileage charge of $0.55 / mile from Consumer's Energy in Marshalltown.

Thermal Imaging
(Insulation Check)

$75.00

Checks for thermal problems related to insulation of a home.  Checks heat loss / gain around windows and doorways.  Can help identify moisture problems in structure of home.  Provides color photos of problem areas.  Recommend combining with Blower Door Test.

 
Duct Blaster
(Ductwork Integrity Test)

$150.00

Checks for leaks in furnace ductwork which results in lost energy.  Great for new homes still under construction.  Evaluates ductwork in "unconditioned" space, such as crawl spaces and attics where leaks are considered 100% lost energy.  Good to combine with Blower Door Test. 

 
Blower Door Test
(Air Infiltration of Home)

$150.00

Checks for air leaks into or out of the home. Identifies locations
to tighten up the home with caulk or weather strip.  Evaluates exterior doors and windows for leaks.  Good with Thermal Imaging or Duct Blaster Test. 
 
HERS
(Home Energy Rating System)

$500.00
 
Consumer's Energy has one of the few certified raters in Iowa.  Provides a review of home's technical specifications.  Used to qualify for the Energy Tax Credit (ETC) - Builders only.  Used to qualify for utility rebates.  Provides home improvement analysis.  Home Energy Rating Certificate used to help sell a home.  (Requires two trips.) 
 
Energy Star Rating
(E-Star)

$550.00

Nationally-recognized energy efficiency certification.  Used to qualify for utility rebates and EE to EI mortgages.  Energy Star certifies a home-selling asset.  Must be inspected prior to drywall for thermal bypass checklist.  Blower Door and Duct Blaster Test conducted after completion of construction  (Requires two trips).
 
Energy Tax Credit
(ETC)

$500.00

HERS rating using REM-Rate software that provides certificate for builder's tax credit.  Home construction and audit must be completed prior to filing taxes for year of construction.  Other home energy check-up options may also be recommended.
