NRECA Names Former U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson New CEO

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) announced that former U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson has been selected to serve as NRECA’s 6th chief executive officer. Matheson will succeed Jo Ann Emerson, who was stricken by a severe illness in August of last year.  He will join the association and assume his duties as CEO in July.

Pella Cooperative Electric and CIPCO Launch Utility-Scale Solar Generation

Pella Cooperative Electric is part of Central Iowa Power Cooperative’s (CIPCO) utility-scale solar project which is the largest in the state. The ZON VELD (Sun Field) solar facility will generate 1,219,700 kWh of energy as a part of CIPCO’s 5.5MW solar project. Once complete, the ZON VELD generation facility will contain 3,168 solar panels and generate enough electricity to power up to 121 homes. In late 2015, CIPCO initiated an RFP for the development of utility-scale solar facilities to be located at several member cooperative sites in Iowa. The multi-site solar installation is the first phase in CIPCO’s long-term plan to incorporate solar as an additional emissions and carbon-free resource within its generation assets. 

Pella Cooperative Electric Association Appoints New CEO

Jon Miles of Oklahoma has been selected as the new Chief Executive Officer by the Pella Cooperative Electric Association (PCEA) board of directors. Jon will start on March 21. He succeeds John Smith, who will retire on March 31 after 25 years of dedicated service to the Cooperative.

GE to Phase out CFL Bulbs

General Electric Company said it would stop making and selling CFL bulbs in the United States by the end of 2016.
