Carroll Hoksbergen, Incumbent
PCEA Member Since 1974
Occupation: Retired from 3M and Farming
Family: Wife Kathy of 50 years, three children: Ben and wife Karen, Carrie Kelderman and husband Curt, Joe and wife Katie and 8 grandchildren
Other Activities and Committees: Over the years, I have served on the school board and church board in various capacities, as well as several years as a Marion County Farm Bureau Director. Currently, I serve as a volunteer Care Coordinator at The Well. I'm involved in Sheltering Tree at church, as well as completing my ninth year as an REC Director.
Hobbies: Following our grandchildren's activities and events, digging up family and local history as well as following current events/politics, and traveling with my wife to places near and far.
Why are you interested in running for the director position?: I'm fascinated with the Cooperative concept and how it has served farmers and families for many decades. This business model that we embrace is made effective by member ownership, with the unified commitment to provide, safe, affordable and reliable power to our members. In the past nine years as a Pella Cooperative Director, I've been privileged to receive considerable education and training to equip me with the knowledge and leadership tools to serve on into the future. Because of that, and my deep respect for the Coop staff and board, I would like to serve many more years in this capacity.
What are your short-term goals if elected?: I would strive to stay educated in sources of power in the state and beyond. I would like to be instrumental in securing its safe and reliable delivery and maintenance, while keeping it affordable for the Pella Cooperative Electric members.
Roy Jahner
PCEA Member Since 2000
Occupation: Semi-retired while working part-time for BC Technologies. My family and I also raise registered Dorset show sheep.
Family: My wife Kisha, and son Chandler who is the ag teacher at Pleasantville High School, and my daughter Ella works for PPI in Pella.
Other Activities and Committees: I served two terms on the Marion County Fair Board as well as served as a Clay Township Trustee. I'm the co-founder of the Southern-Central Lamb Producers organization and we do an annual jackpot show held in Chariton. My family are also members of the Federated Fellowship Church.
Hobbies: Showing Dorset sheep! My wife and I like riding our motorcycle across the state and recently started taking vacations to national parks.
Why are you interested in running for the director position?: I have a diverse background in the electrical industry. I attended the Mitchell Technical Institute and worked for the city for seven years. My father and brother had a contractor powerline construction company as well. Later, I got a job with the phone company and worked there for 22 years. When I heard about this position, I thought what a great fit! An opportunity to get back into something I feel knowledgeable about and can serve a greater cause.
What are your short-term goals if elected?: With my telephone and internet background, I'm interested in the possibilities for rural fiber and what that can bring for our membership.
District 2 Candidates
Darrell Boot, Incumbent/Unopposed
PCEA Member Since 1983
Occupation: Farmer
Family: My wife Bonnie, daughter Jenna married to Tanner, son Jay married to Kelsey, son Justin married to Alivia and six grandchildren.
Other Activities and Committees: Over the years I have served several terms on the church board and most recently have served in an eldership position at our church.
Hobbies: First on the list - family! We love getting together! Whether it's a birthday celebration, sledding party, fishing, or game night - making memories together is the best! I also enjoy hunting, traveling, and restoring old tractors.
Why are you interested in being re-elected as a director?: I've been honored to serve on this board and to serve the membership of Pella Cooperative. The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association have invested time, resources, education, and training to equip me with knowledge and therefore equip me to serve the membership to the best of my ability.
What are your short-term goals if elected?: To continue to work with the board in meeting the challenges of membership needs in an ever-changing electrical market. I will continue to support safe, affordable, and reliable electric service to our membership.
