Payment Options
In the App
Pay your bill in SmartHub - the free, account management app. Don't have the app? Download it to your phone here or simply sign up/log in from your browser.
Budget Billing
Don't like the unknown? Sign up for a set, budgeted payment amount. As opposed to paying for a fluctuating bill, budget billing takes the average monthly bill amount and sets this as your monthly payment amount. This way you know what you’re going to pay for your electric bill every month.
Sign up by contacting us at 641-628-1040.
AutoPay
Make it easy and don't ever think about your monthly bill. Sign up to have your electric bill automatically drafted every month from the bank account of your choice, or with your credit card. There are no fees.
Sign up by credit card through the SmartHub app or with a bank account by filling out this form. Email your completed form, along with a photo of a voided check, to service@pella-cea.org.

What If I Can't Pay My Bill On Time?
If for any reason you are unable to make a payment by the due date, please contact the office. We offer payment agreements and other arrangements, in accordance with the cooperative's tariff filed with, and approved by, the Iowa Utilities Board. If your payment is not received by the due date, a 1.5% late penalty is assessed. We will attempt to contact you numerous times to notify you before disconnection occurs:
-
A friendly reminder is mailed the day after the due date.
-
An automated phone call may be placed to the primary phone number on file.
-
At least one day prior to disconnection, a notice will be placed on the door of the home as a final reminder. The member is responsible for the expense of this trip.
-
If payment has not been received, or acceptable arrangements made, disconnection of electric service may occur.
If you have trouble paying your monthly electric bill, the co-op provides the following resources:
"Avoiding Shut Off Of Electric Service for Nonpayment" as listed in the Cooperative's tariff
"Customer Rights and Responsibilities to Avoid Disconnection for Nonpayment" as provided by the Iowa Utilities Board
If you need assistance with your energy bills, see if you qualify for state assistance or contact local assistance programs. Learn more here.
Will I Be Charged Extra If My Account Is Disconnected?
Pella Cooperative Electric does not charge for disconnection of electric service. However, if your account is being disconnected for non-payment, some charges may be incurred in the process.
-
Trip Charge - This charge is assessed when a cooperative staff member makes a trip to your home. Trips for posting a disconnection notice, disconnection of service, and reconnecting of service may incur a trip charge. This is $75.00 during normal office hours, and $185.00 after hours.
-
Deposit - If a deposit is not currently held on an account, or if it is not sufficient, one may be required after the account has been disconnected for non-payment. The deposit is equal to the highest bill in the last 12 months.
